We have been gathering these answers to use in our strategic planning process. However, we would like to give our membership the option to submit this feedback separately. This may give our members more time to consider answers to these questions. This may also give a voice to those members who could not attend our district meetings.

SJR 57, which would have further limited ad valorem by putting a cap on property taxes for senior citizens, failed today in the Senate. Shortly after the first vote, the bill was brought back up on a motion to reconsider and again failed to receive enough votes.

In a time of financial crisis in our state and with no state money to replace any lost revenue, it is extremely important to preserve the ad valorem funding base as a revenue source for common education and career tech.

We will continue to watch this issue very closely.

Join other school board members, school administrators, exhibitors, partners, and other participants as the 2009 Joint Conference and Exposition of the Oklahoma State School Boards Association and the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration kicks off with the 19th Annual OSSBA/CCOSA Golf Tournament.

The tournament will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at The Golf Club at Surrey Hills, 11340 Surrey Hills Blvd., Yukon, OK 73099. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the tournament will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
