General Appropriations

HB 3029
HB 3029, by Speaker Benge, will provide short term financial flexibility for school districts. This legislation will relax mandates, delay the text book cycle for two years among other things. HB 3029 is headed to the Governor. HB 3029 has been signed into law.
HB 2944
HB 2944, by Representative Jordan, has been sent to the Governor’s desk. This piece of legislation will allow for a scheduling of court appearances of school district employees to minimize class time disruption. If a school district employee is subpoenaed to appear as a witness in a civil court preceding the school district would be able to collect a witness fee equal to the amount of the substitute teacher cost, not to exceed $100. HB 2944 was SIGNED into law by the Governor.
HB 2274
HB 2274, by Representative Thomsen, will allow building funds to be used to repair and maintain computer systems, computer equipment and to pay for telecommunications utilities. HB 2274 was SIGNED into law by the Governor.
HB 3393
HB 3393, by Representative Nelson, will create special education vouchers. OSSBA opposed this legislation. Governor Henry SIGNED HB 3393 into law.
SB 2034
SB 2034 would give the State Auditor and Inspector more responsibility with regards to reviewing school district audits. SB 2034 has been signed into law by the Governor.
SB 2199
SB 2199 would allow local school boards to request information about felony conviction of prospective employees from the State Board of Education. SB 2199 was SIGNED into law by the Governor.
SB 1589
SB 1589 would have given favorable tax treatment to wireless companies, reducing ad valorem school districts would receive. OSSBA is opposed to this legislation. Governor Henry VETOED SB 1589.
