Cox Convention Center, Oklahoma City

It’s not too late to register!

NEW! The Education Leadership Conference Agenda is now available!

The Education Leadership Conference will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 24 with the 4th Annual Dr. Bob Mooneyham Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament and the New Laws for Schools Pre-Conference sessions (more information below).

Keynote Speakers:

Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent of Public Instruction
General Session I • Friday Morning

State schools Superintendent Joy Hofmeister will help kick off this year’s conference. Hofmeister has overseen a variety of changes in education since taking office in 2015. Schools have new English and math academic standards and new tests, and the state is nearing completion of its Every Student Succeeds Act plan. Under her leadership, the state Education Department has worked to reduce red tape for schools.

Will Richardson, Educational Thinker, Writer and Change Advocate
General Session III • Saturday

A former teacher and technology administrator, Will Richardson dives into the changing landscape of education and how technology has changed what we think of as school at a time when adults and many students walk around with computers in their pockets. Technology, he says, helps makes this an exciting time to be a learner but the most challenging time ever to be in education.

Thursday, Aug. 24 • 1 – 4 p.m. • 1 FIN and 2 LEG credits are available

Change is the one constant in public education. You won’t want to miss this special pre-conference opportunity to hear from education attorneys about legislative changes affecting Oklahoma’s public schools. We’ll kick off the afternoon with a discussion about school finance and budget issues. Then, attendees can choose from breakout out sessions on a variety of student, employment and board issues. Among the issues attorneys will highlight:

  • How school districts can take advantage of new flexibility in hiring retired educators back to the classroom
  • How changes to the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act will affect school districts
  • How to implement changes regarding use of school facilities
  • Changes to the Reading Sufficiency Act
  • New rules on employee background checks
  • What schools can expect from the state’s new school accountability system
  • How new requirements for individualized student learning plans will affect every Oklahoma school district
