Education Organizations File Brief in Support of Sales Tax Proposal

Today, the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration, Oklahoma State School Boards Association and the Oklahoma Education Association filed a legal brief with the Oklahoma Supreme Court regarding the penny sales tax proposal to support public education.

The organizations believe the proposal is constitutional and that Oklahomans should have the opportunity to vote on a much-needed long-term funding solution for schools.

Oklahoma’s teacher shortage has created a crisis for our state’s students, leaving them in larger class sizes and with fewer course options. The sales tax would allow a $5,000 raise for every Oklahoma teacher, which is critical to retaining teachers and attracting young people and second-career professionals to the classroom.

Oklahoma’s economic future depends on the students in today’s classrooms, and Oklahomans should have the chance to invest more in our children and our public schools.
