new legislation and legal hot topics pre-conference

Join OSSBA Executive Director Dr. Shawn Hime, Associate Director Dr. Joe Siano and the OSSBA legal team for a breakdown of important laws that were passed by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2021.

The pre-conference workshop will begin with a conversation about the 2022 Oklahoma Education Budget with Rooney Virgin, Dr. Shawn Hime and Dr. Joe Siano.  This 3–4 p.m. session will address federal funding, state funding, the Oklahoma Redbud Building Equalization Fund and other issues related to school finance.  

Following the budget conversation, the OSSBA legal team will host breakout sessions from 4–6 p.m. Sessions will include information on 2021 legislative action taken regarding staff and student issues, and action taken regarding issues impacting school boards and mandates. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in both sessions.

We hope you’ll be there! Separate pre-conference registration is required. The pre-conference will be held at the Omni Hotel directly across the street from the convention center.

You’re invited to come tour the exhibit hall where we will provide food, drinks and giveaways courtesy of Schneider Electric. You can also skip the Friday morning lines with early-bird check-in for the Education Leadership Conference! Full conference registration is not required for attendance. All pre-conference and conference attendees are welcome! Two drink tickets will be provided for attendees, a cash bar is available for guests. No RSVP is necessary.



New this year – special learning opportunities designed to enhance the work of district employees including minutes clerks, encumbrance clerks, treasurers and human resources professionals. The $175 specialized learning track registration will include one-day Conference attendance featuring the daily general session, exhibit hall entrance, and four 50-minute focused breakout sessions. The OSSBA and CCOSA legal teams take your calls and answer your questions all year! You won’t want to miss the chance to meet with them face-to-face about the most pressing issues facing your district and learn what’s happening in other similarly sized districts during the Legal Roundtables on Sunday morning, Aug. 29.

An optional breakfast (additional $30 fee, no program) will be available for your convenience on Sunday morning before the legal roundtables begin. Tickets are available by pre-purchase only and will not be available on site. (Family members are welcome to purchase breakfast tickets as well.)

New board members and incumbents elected or appointed since Jan. 1, 2014, will have the opportunity to obtain ALL 12 NEW/6 INCUMBENT REQUIRED CREDITS by attending all days of the Education Leadership Conference. Opportunities to earn your required finance, open meeting act, and ethics credits will be offered on both Friday and Saturday.

Education Leadership Conference registration is $375 for OSSBA members, $750 for non-members. Registrations are due on or before August 13. Registrations after the deadline (including on-site) are $475, $950 for non-members.

Thursday pre-conference registration is $125 for OSSBA members, $250 for non-members. Optional Sunday breakfast tickets are $30 each for attendees and guests. Registrations are due on or before August 13. Pre-conference and breakfast on-site registration is not available.

Notice of cancellation for each event session must be received in writing by Aug. 13. Cancellations submitted July 17 through Aug. 13 are subject to a $75 cancellation fee for Conference cancellations and a $25 cancellation fee for pre-conference or specialized learning track cancellations. No refunds or credits will be given after Aug. 13, 2021.
