School Records and Legal Issues: Protecting Student and Employee Information

School districts are responsible for acquiring and maintaining a large amount of information on both students and employees. There are several state and federal laws and rules regarding the protection of student and employee information and maintenance of school records.
Join OSSBA Staff Attorney Kim Bishop for a discussion of the state and federal laws and rules related to student and employee information, including but not limited to the Oklahoma Open Records Act and the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Kim will also review the record-keeping requirements and regulations that govern how and for how long schools must keep student and employee records.

This workshop will benefit administrators, who oversee school records, and school board members. School board members will receive 1 Ethics and 1 Open Meeting Act credit.

Registration is $100 for OSSBA members and $200 for non-OSSBA members. In-person registrations are due by Nov. 24, 2023. In-person registrations after the deadline are $125 ($250 for non-members). Notice of in-person registration cancellation must be received in writing by the registration due date for a refund (less a $25 cancellation fee). No refunds will be offered after the due date. Virtual registrations are not subject to a price increase or cancellation fee.
