OSSBA and CCOSA are proud to present the 9th Annual Dr. Bob Mooneyham Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament. Throughout Mooneyham’s career, he served as an education leader, working as a teacher, coach, counselor, superintendent and professor. His numerous contributions to Oklahoma education were recognized with honors including the Oklahoma Educators’ Hall of Fame, OEA Friend of Education, Keepers of the Dream Award, UCO Outstanding Alumni, Holiday Texas Outstanding Alumni, 75 Who Made a Difference in the OU College of Education, and Okemah Hall of Fame. Dr. Mooneyham became executive director of the Oklahoma State School Boards Association in 1975 and advocated for Oklahoma public education from this position for 25 years. Mooneyham was a co-founder of the Oklahoma Education Coalition and served the National Rural Education Association until his retirement in 2006. From the capitol to the classroom, he was a respected and caring professional who made a difference in the lives of students across the state.

Mooneyham, who passed away in 2012, is honored annually with the OSSBA Bob Mooneyham Memorial Golf Tournament. Proceeds from past and future tournaments are used to fund a scholarship in his name. We appreciate the many OSSBA members who support the golf tournament each year

2023 Dr. Bob Mooneyham Memorial Scholarship Recipient

JaiCee Lester, a senior at Checotah High School, is this year’s recipient of the Dr. Bob Mooneyham Memorial Scholarship. This fall, Lester will attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and major in education. Upon graduation, she wants to support public education in her home state as a science teacher and basketball coach.

Lester has excelled academically throughout her school career. She has been involved in Student Council, Spirit Club, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Teen Board.

Her extracurricular activities include basketball, cross country and track. She volunteers with the United Way Day of Caring, Fostering Hope, the Checotah Nursing Center, Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Special Olympics and many other worthy causes.

The tournament kicks off the Education Leadership Conference and is a fun and relaxing experience that provides an opportunity for school board members, school administrators and district employees and representatives from the business community to get together, network and establish relationships that will benefit public schools.

The entry fee is $75 per person and includes golf cart, refreshment cart and lunch. Rental clubs are available at an additional cost.

Refreshment carts, lunch, trophies, and prizes will be provided through the courtesy and sponsorship of our partners. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the 1st place team and to the 2nd and 3rd place teams. Other prizes may be awarded during contests at the tournament, including the longest drive and closest to the pin.
