A license is required to teach in Oklahoma, while a license plate is required to identify a car. Recently, the State Department of Education held a design contest for students to create a specialty license plate that would be available for sale to the public. Not only did this give students an opportunity to showcase their skills, but the proceeds will benefit Oklahoma teachers. The specialized license plate is a result of a law written by Sen. Stephanie Bice and Rep. Ryan Martinez during the last legislative session to help with Oklahoma’s teacher shortage.
The Oklahoma Tax Commission needs to have 100 pre-orders by May 1 in order for the license plates to be put into production. The charge for the license plate is $35, plus a $3 shipping fee. Twenty dollars from each plate sold will go towards teacher retainment and recruitment in Oklahoma. The order form is available at any tag agency in the state or download below.
