This two-day event is designed for board members and superintendents. Attending as a governance team is not required but is highly encouraged to gain the most from the experience. Newly elected board members who attend the New Board Member workshop along with Strategic Leadership for Student Success will fulfill the new board member 15-month requirements.

Board members and superintendents may register for one or both days.
Board members are eligible to receive six credits each day.

Superintendents or their designee may register a board member-elect who ran unopposed for a term beginning in April for this event. OSSBA is in the process of adding elected but not seated board members to the OSSBA member portal. However, if your district’s board member-elect doesn’t appear in the OSSBA member portal, please contact Kaitie Stout for registration assistance.

New board members will receive an in-depth introduction into their roles and responsibilities, including their role in working with the superintendent and other board members, employment, school finance, policy and open meetings and records.

Experienced board members can attend the new board member session or take a deeper dive during sessions designed to build on their experiences including budgeting, legal issues affecting students, Title IX, executive sessions, and helping lead the district’s governance team.

Individual session registration is $150 for OSSBA members, $300 for non-members. Registrations are due by April 26. Notice of cancellation must be received in writing by the registration due date for a refund (less a $25 cancellation fee). No refunds will be offered after the due date. Registrations after the deadline (including on-site) are $175 ($350 for non-members).
