Measles & Communicable Diseases

So far this year, the Centers for Disease Control has confirmed nearly 900 individual cases in 24 states. This is the highest number of cases reported in the U.S. since 1994. On May 15, 2019, the Oklahoma State Department of Health confirmed the first case of measles in the state.

Schools play an important part in the prevention and control of communicable diseases. School personnel are in a strategic position to detect early symptoms of illness in the classroom, and there are general measures which school personnel can use to prevent the spread of disease.

The OSSBA team has created a guidance document to support schools on this issue. You can download the guidance by clicking here.
