Join the OSSBA team, education leaders and former legislators from across Oklahoma on Feb. 6 to discuss a variety of advocacy-related topics.

• 9 a.m. – Introduction

• 9:10-10 a.m. – Voices of Experience: A distinguished panel of former legislators share what works and what doesn’t when it comes to legislative advocacy. The panel will feature Skye McNeil, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education and Former State Representative House District 29; Leslie Osborn, Oklahoma Labor Commissioner, Former State Representative House District 47; and Emily Virgin, Director of Advocacy and Government Relations for Human Rights for Kids, Former State Representative and Minority Leader House District 44.

• 10:10-11 a.m. – Effective Education Advocacy: Learn how the legislative structure and building a cadre of local education advocates can influence state education policy. Featuring OSSBA Staff: Rooney Virgin, OSSBA Director of Government Affairs; Christy Watson, Director of Communications and Marketing; and Amber Graham-Fitzgerald, Director of Member and Community Engagement.

• 11:10 a.m.-12:25 p.m. – 2023 Legislative Overview: Budget Outlook, Priorities and Resources with Rooney Virgin, OSSBA Director of Government Affairs, and Joe Siano, OSSBA Associate Executive Director.

• 12:25-1:30 p.m. – Working Lunch: Watch Governor Stitt’s State of the State Address

• 1:30-2 p.m. – Discuss Governor Stitt’s State of the State Address

• 2 p.m. – Adjourned! Don’t forget to reach out to your legislators!

Legislative Advocacy for Education Leaders is eligible for 4 Ethics and 1 Finance credit.


Workshop materials will be available for registered attendees the morning of the workshop through the OSSBA member portal.

Registration is $150 for members, $300 for non-members. Registrations are due on or before February 2. Notice of cancellation must be received in writing by the registration due date for a refund (less a $25 cancellation fee). No refunds will be offered after the due date. Registrations after the deadline (including on-site) are $175 ($350 for non-members).
