Board Member Training Requirements

For board members elected or appointed on or after Jan. 1, 2014, Oklahoma law dictates board members complete certain training requirements within 15 months of appointment/election and annually to remain in good standing. Get information on training requirements here.

OSSBA Learning Opportunities

OSSBA offers a variety of in-person, live online and recorded workshops and webinars to help provide you with important governance information and to meet your state-mandated training requirements. You can find our upcoming events here and our library of on-demand events here.

Dates to Know

  • Board members elected or seated in April 2022 must complete their designated training requirements before the end of July 2023, 15 months from the date of election.
  • Board members elected or seated in April 2023 must complete their designated training requirements before the end of July 2024, 15 months from the date of election.
  • All board members must also obtain the equivalent of 3 hours per year of service in any category. To be eligible to file for reelection, members serving on a three-member board of education must complete their additional credit requirements before the end of November prior to the year their term ends. Members serving on a five-member board of education must complete their additional credit requirements before the end of November prior to the year their term ends.
